Word Salad got a chance to do a brief interview with one of the members of No Question- GuessWho- and we jumped on it. We think the new site http://www.nintendomixtape.com is pretty fresh and even though these songs were made and leaked a few years ago- we wouldn't be surprised to see the site go viral!

WS: Tell me a little about your group, No Question.
GW: No Question is Guesswho, Whatzisface, DJ Buffalo and H. Fraud. We were all old friends who got together and made fun music for people to get wild to.

WS: How did you come up with the idea to use 8-bit video game soundtracks?
GW: Whatzisface is my long time partner and friend. We decided to go into the studio and work on an album together. This mixtape was put together to generate buzz and give us some new music to perform. We always used to play video games together when we were shorties and often before getting down in the studio we would let loose by burning it down and getting down on the ps3 or whatever.

WS: Any reason you chose the NES in particular?
GW: The aesthetic of the NES is crazy. Everything about it brings back memories of our childhood it also happens that the music is dope. The 8-bit gimmick fit in perfectly with the whole retro image that hit music and style a couple of years back and we were with it since me and Face are 80's babies.

WS: What games/systems do you use?
GW: Whatever sounded fresh. Old time classics and some obscure ones... Off the top: Mega Man, Double Dragon, Kabuki, Gauntlet, Time Lord, Gunsmoke, Wheel of Fortune, Gremlins, Marble Madness...

WS: What hardware/software did you use to do the editing, etc?
GW: We sampled directly from the NES System into the Digi 03 Pro Tools rig

WS: Were there any plans to release this album?
GW: We leaked it. It was never finalized. We have other projects and tour dates that we and management thought would be more fruitful. Since it's all hyper copy written, a law suit probably would set us back... We did go in on several tour dates with the Cool Kids, Freebass 808 (Camp Lo),Team Facelift and on our own and always shut the show down, nah mean!

WS: What should we look for from No Question and its members in the future?
GW: Whatzisface just put out a mixtape called Face Against the Machine which is original music and production by Face featuring Guesswho, Ill Bill, The Cool Kids and production by Harry Fraud over Rage Against the Machine samples. You can download it for free off of our record label blog.

H. Fraud just dropped A New York Minute with French Montana and Jadakiss which hit hard this summer and Face has some new mixtapes and a full length album on the way. I am dropping my new mixtape Adapt and Advance in September so look out for us!

Also check out new releases from the Sweat Shop at www.sweatshopnewyork.com

I dare you to question the genius behind nintendomixtape.com and their homebrewed, 8-bit awesomeness! If you havent yet, check out their site and listen to a full album of NES-effects.
